Tall Masonry Buildings Behaviour

Abstract

The possibility of constructing tall buildings with structural masonry construction system with large apartments, a building on the east side of St. Paul has reached the mark of 24 floors and two others in Morumbi, the south, are under construction, are burying some old prejudices with the system. It's in this regard, this project aims to develop an extensive literature search and experimental to evaluate the behavior of tall buildings in structural masonry. Therefore, the 1st part of the work is by a literature review national and international levels on the behavior of masonry as the forces of compressive compression in bending, shear strength, tensile flexion, flexion-compression and adherence, and behavior porticos. The second part of the project, which includes the 1st phase of the experimental program will be conducting tests for the characterization of materials (blocks, mortar and grout) and elements (walls and prisms) to evaluate the compression strength, shear strength , flexural tension. The 2nd phase of the trial you go through an analysis and testing of masonry frames, understood as columns and beams made of masonry, analyzed and sized as portals. The objective of this phase is to understand the structural model taking into account various factors, such as going to be considered effective, the relative small stiffness and low shear strength and bending beams between sections of masonry walls, providing the limit cracking and reinforcement ratio for beams, a considerable decrease in the stiffness of the portico and the connection between the beam and the foundation and between walls. Continuing, will be assessed a finite element modeling of testing and a tall building in structural masonry (frames) to have analysis and comparison with the experimental.
