Evaluation of anthelmintic potential of plant extracts

Abstract

The initial objective of the study is to perform the in vitro evaluation of ethanol extracts of the leaves of Psidium cattleianum Sabine (red guava), Bauhinia forticata (cow's foot), M. urundeuva (black aroeira) and fruit pulp of Dipteryx alata (baru) and of Syagrus romanzoffiana (small coconut catarrh) from inhibition tests hatching of eggs, motility and larval development of gastrointestinal nematodes of the family Trychostrongylidae, eg Haemonchus sp., Trichostrongylus sp. Coperia and sp which are the main contributors to the losses in sheep production. Will be initially evaluated the ethanol extracts of these plants. If the results are good the ethanolic extracts will be partitioned with other solvents and these fractions evaluated for a possible separation and identification of the constituents of the most active fractions.
