Perception that secondary teachers from the City of São Paulo have about subjects related to science and technology

Abstract

This research project intends to gather information on the perception that secondary teachers from the city of São Paulo have about subjects related to science and technology. Data will be colllected through a pilot questionnaire structured with open and closed queries to be applied on a stratified sample according to the geographical area and the kind of teaching institution(run by the State, privately, by SESI or technical formation). The questionnaire methodological basis follows the pattern of studies made about a decade ago by Labjor/Unicamp in association with other institutions in Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries in America about public perception of science and technology(at which "education" is a theme of discussion). Results coming from the research will favour the planning of actions aiming at forming teachers either at incipient or continual standards, the focus being the diffusion of knowledge about science and technology among teachers: opinion-makers by excellence. Also intended is the structuring of a common methodology apt to establish quantitative indicators allowing an international comparison that strengthens a tradition growing in Brazil together with other American and Iberian countries.
