Abstract Currently Brazil is the principal coffee producer in the world, accounting for 30% of the international market, an equivalent to the sum of the production of six other major countries producer. It is also the second largest consumer market, behind only the United States (ABIC, 2012). In the ranking of world trade dollars, the coffee industry is the second largest behind only petroleum. These data are indicative that the coffee is an agricultural product of significant commercial importance to Brazil. However, excess world supply clear of demand has reduced its value in the last three decades which encourages the development of products derived from coffee with higher added value aiming to reduce this trend. This research project aims to study and compare the effectiveness of green coffee oil and the concentration of diterpenes cafestol (C) and kahweol (K) obtained by pressing, versus the extract from supercritical (SFE) and pressurized fluid (PEF) extraction, considering the extract concentration in their diterpenes. Specifically, the objective of this study is to evaluate the toxicity of the enriched green coffee oil, mainly cafestol and kahweol, relevant compounds for the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Continuing the work developed by the research group that has worked on this issue, it is intended with this project was to evaluate the toxicity of the diterpenes cafestol and kahweol in mice and generate data that can assist in the application of the coffee oil in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and food products. | |
