Abstract

Introduction: The occurrence of infant death is seen as a quality indicator of population health, especially because it is preventable event in most cases. Specifically, neonatal mortality accounts for two-thirds of infant deaths and the result of the close relationship between biological variables, social and health care, which makes its reduction difficult and slow, especially when considering the early neonatal mortality, which corresponds to 50% of deaths in the first year of life. According to the World Health Organization, probably no justification for cesarean rates above 15%, there is relationship between cesarean precise and increased neonatal mortality. Objectives: To identify the incidence of cesarean delivery and cesarean delivery previously scheduled and compare the perinatal outcome of children born to previously scheduled cesarean section and vaginal delivery. Method: This is a only cohort with selection not probabilistic. Secondary data will be used in the study "The mother-child in Botucatu: epidemiological study in emphasis on maternal and child mortality" (Process 2011/05738-2 FAPESP), being included in the study all women admitted for childbirth care in period 1 January to 30 June 2012 at the two existing hospitals in Botucatu. Statistical analysis will be performed in two phases in each outcome: in phase 1 will be identified variables with significant confounding effect. In phase 2 the relationship between mode of delivery and certain outcome will be studied considering the confounding factors identified in phase 1 by multiple logistic regression for binary outcomes, ordinal regression for outcomes with more than 2 categories and regression with asymmetric response to numerical outcomes.
