Abstract

Chronic renal failure (CRF) is characterized by progressive and irreversible loss of renal function and its treatment generates a public expenditure for maintenance of patients on dialysis. The stem cell therapy (CT) may be a promising strategy to repair/slow the progression of CRF. However, there are doubts about the cell type used in the repair and the role of the kidney. Preliminary data from the group showed that rats with CRF treated with mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) injected into the renal parenchyma can stabilize the progression of CKD. However, the CTM have limited ability to differentiate difficult to use in clinical protocols. The effects of induced pluripotent stem (IPS) in experimental IRC were not reported. Therefore our goals are: 1) genetically modify MSCs derived from bone marrow with lentiviral vectors containing transcription factors Oct3/4, Sox2, Klf4, and Myc, aiming to transform multipotent cells into iPS, 2) evaluate the effect of IPS in the progression of experimental CRF.
