Abstract

The aim of this study will to evaluate the application of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and Bacillus subtilis in the process of ensiling corn and observe the effect of manipulation of the fermentation process in the silo on animal performance. Experiments will be conducted for this purpose in different stages. First, it will evaluate the process of fermentation in silage corn. The treatments are: inoculated silage with Lactobacillus plantarum and L. buchneri (1 x 105 CFU / g of ensiled forage) inoculated silage with L. plantarum and B. subtilis (1 x 105 CFU / g of ensiled forage); control silage (without application of inoculants). The silage produced in buckets (silos) will be opened on different days of the ensiling process (2, 7, 14, 21 and 45 days). Thus, the chemical composition, fermentation characteristics, microbiological characteristics, aerobic stability and in vitro digestibility of organic matter will be considered as a basis to establish the effect of inoculants on the manipulation of the fermentation process. In a second step, the quality of the silage inoculated with the same treatments described above will be evaluated by animal performance, using cross steers and sheep Dorper x Santa Inês. Produced will be three silos type surface conduction for these experiments. The same analysis will be repeated the first experiment in this regard to the assessment silage. However, the performance of cattle and sheep will be measured by dry matter and nutrients intake, apparent digestibility in vivo, ruminal parameters, average daily weight gain, carcass yield and meat quality evaluation at the end of the experiment. Finally, the survival of BAL in rumen conditions will be tested in an in vivo experiment in which sheep Dorper x Santa Inês (rumen cannulated animals) will receive a daily dose of L. buchneri infused in the rumen (1x107 CFU / g of silage provided) only when they are fed control silage, testing still feeding isolated with control silage (without infusion of rumen BAL) and silage inoculated with L. buchneri (1x105 CFU / g silage), consisting three treatments. The identification and quantification of L. buchneri will be performed by PCR. Another part of this stage will be conducted in vitro, based on corn silage inoculated or not with L. buchneri and incubated with rumen fluid from animals fed only control silage; animals fed silage inoculated with L. buchneri; animals fed control silage and receive a daily dose of L. buchneri infused in the rumen. Therefore, it is hoped through these experiments that the mechanisms that interfere with the action of lactic acid bacteria and B. subtilis in the whole process during the ensiling opening up the silos, as well as on animal performance, are better understood.
