Abstract

The number of publications emphasizing the phylogenetic relationships among families, genera and species of amphibians has increased substantially in recent years due the wide dissemination of knowledge about the genotypic data. However the evolution of phenotypic characters has remained the margin of phylogenetic advances based solely on genotypic data. All hypotheses of relationships confirm the relationship between Neotropical subfamily Phyllomedusinae and Australo-Papuan Pelodryadinae, despite the high support confirming the relationship between these subfamilies, the resolution between these clades internal subfamilies shows a distinct pattern. While Phyllomedusinae has the majority of their inner relationship well defined Pelodryadinae shows little resolution between its internal clades. This lack of internal relations between Pelodryadinae affects our understanding of the evolution of certain phenotypic characters common to these two subfamilies. Using the genotypic data published for Phyllomedusinae and Pelodryadinae is proposed to study the relationship between these two subfamilies focusing the understanding of phenotypic characters changes common to them.
