Occurrence of Cryptosporidium spp. in fecal samples from colts the city of Araçatuba, SP

Abstract

This research project aims to determine the incidence of infection by Cryptosporidium spp. foals in the city of Araçatuba, São Paulo. Fecal samples from 100 foals are analyzed by negative staining with malachite green to verify the removal of Cryptosporidium spp. Followed by molecular characterization using the nested-PCR reaction for the amplification of DNA fragments of the 18S subunit of ribosomal RNA gene only in samples positive in the first test. Statistical analysis consists of the chi-square test with a 5% significance level, to verify the association of the presence of said enteroparasito sex, race and age and fecal consistency of the analyzed animals.
