The present project intends to initiate the researcher in modern theatre studies starting from a critical reading of the play O GEBO E A SOMBRA (1923), written by Raul Brandão (1867-1930), a Portuguese fictionist and dramaturge that, besides this title, published other four plays of his own exclusive authorship, and other two in co-authorship, each of them written with different authors: Júlio Brandão and Teixeira de Pascoaes. This dramaturgic production, non-extensive and insufficiently known among brazilian universitarian milieus, reveals itself how we intend to demonstrate, by textual analysis, one of the most distinct products of Expressionism - "in Portugal so rare and elusive", according to specialized critics - in Portuguese theatre.
