Abstract

This project aims to obtain heavy metal oxides based vitreous materials doped with transition metal salts (Mn, Fe, Ag), which make possible the nucleation and subsequently growth of magnetic crystalline phases in their bulk. The glass compositions are prepared by the melting-quenching methodology, and the glass-ceramics are prepared by heat treatment of the glasses above their glass temperature. The structural properties of the synthesized materials will be analyzed by Raman spectroscopy, electronic paramagnetic resonance (EPR), Mössbauer spectroscopy, X-Ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electronic microscopy and atomic force microscopy (AFM). For the magnetic measurements a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) and magnetic force microscope (MFM) will be used. Chemical analisys (EDX) can also be used to give information about the composition of the nanoparticles. (AU)
