Abstract

The use of cryotherapy in rehabilitation of ankle athletes is widespread. It is known that these individuals return to sports activities without complete resolution of the lesions and use this feature to control pain and swelling. However the influence of cryotherapy in motor control of the ankle, knee and balance of athletes is controversial. The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of cooling on the ankle kinematics of the knee after landing the single-leg hop. The sample is composed of 40 individuals, males, divided into two groups. Group one is comprised of 20 basketball players undergo constant training, and group two, 20 subjects university assets, not athletes. All respond to the term of consent, and the sequence will be 12 reflective markers placed at predetermined points. Then develop three single leg jumps with the dominant leg to collect the images of the knee positioning, through eight video cameras that generate images to be analyzed by the Qualisys Track Manager 2.3 software. After the initial collection of images kinematic individuals will undergo ankle of cryotherapy for 20 minutes of immersion, with a temperature of 4 ± 2 degrees Celsius. The collection of images will be held in before, post away, after 10, 20 and 30 minutes after application of cryotherapy. The images will be analyzed to generate values of angular movements of valgus, varus, flexion, extension, internal and external rotation of the knee. The data will be statistically analyzed with the Shapiro-Wilk test for normality analysis of the sample and subsequently be applied comparison tests and correlation according to the results. The significance level is set at 5% and analysis program will be the SPSS15.0. The data support the intended effect of cryotherapy applied to the ankle joint on the motor control of the knee. (AU)
