Detection of inflammatory and metabolic markers and cardiovascular risk of patients in peritoneal dialysis

Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is characterized by the irreversible loss of kidney function, indicating replacement therapy such as peritoneal dialysis (PD) and hemodialysis (HD) or kidney transplantation. There was an increase of dialysis patients in Brazil, with growth higher than the population, 95% of treatment maintained by SUS, with greater annual cost of the HD compared to PD. In the first two years of dialysis, PD is superior to HD, with improved survival and preservation of renal function. However, after this period, there is a reversal of this pattern due to decreased ultrafiltration in PD due to the use of glucose solution, which can lead to diabetes mellitus and metabolic syndrome. Thus, it is important the metabolic and inflammatory evaluation of these patients because early detection and correction of these factors can facilitate the reduction of cardiovascular events leading to the cause of death in CKD. The objective of the study is to detect the presence of metabolic and inflammatory markers, and cardiovascular risk of PD patients. With the approval of the Ethics Committee of the institutions will be done a prospective and multicenter study, with about 150 patients on PD dialysis centers in some municipalities through a unified protocol. Will be collected laboratory exams for evaluation of metabolic profile and inflammatory markers, cardiovascular risk and will evaluate the characteristics of PD by PET, Kt / V, and FRR. (AU)
