Abstract

The main objective of this study during the research internship abroad is to perform a mechanical characterization of the Y-TZP/MWCNT-COOH nanocomposite and compare it with a Y-TZP control material with the intention to validate its clinical application. The objectives are to assess and compare the composite developed with conventional material (Y-TZP) flexural strength after thermo-mechanical cycling aging in an environment that mimics the oral cavity conditions, and obtain values of cyclic fatigue limit and subcritical crack growth parameters with the intention of using this information to respond to the behavior of the material when used in future dental applications. The bar-shaped specimens will be submitted to thermo-mechanical cycling in artificial saliva performing a total of 3.600.000 mechanical cycles and 18 000 thermal cycles in a chewing simulator Chewing CS-4 (SD Mechatronik, Feldkirchen, Germany). After aging, these specimens will be tested for its four-point flexural strength (n = 30) following recommendations of ISO 6872:2008. The data will be analyzed by Weibull test for each material (5%) and differences between groups will be identified using the confidence intervals. The cyclic fatigue limit will be obtained by the staircase method using the cyclic fatigue machine DynaMess TP 5 kN HF (DynaMess, Aachen, Germany) that also allow the calculation of parameters of subcritical crack growth (n * and A *) (AU)
