Abstract The main purpose of this research project is the study of optimal impulsive transfers in the dynamics of restricted problem of three or four bodies with application to lunar and interplanetary missions. The basic problem of optimization consists in transferring a spacecraft from a low circular orbit around the Earth to a low circular orbit around the Moon or a planet (Mars, in particular) by applying two impulses (instantaneous velocity changes) in order to minimize fuel consumption of the mission, represented by the total increment of velocity. Gradient techniques - gradient method and gradient with restoration method - will be applied in the determination of optimal solutions. | |
