Abstract

In order to determine the occurrence of infection by Cryptosporidium spp. in about 250 calves and 80 humans living in rural settlements in the region of Araçatuba, SP, the georeferencing of these will be made, settlements to analyze the most affected areas by this parasite. The samples will be processed by the technique of malachite green dye technique to verify the elimination of oocysts, and subsequently be subjected to DNA extraction of Cryptosporidium spp. with posterior molecular characterization by means of polymerase chain reaction to amplify fragments of the subunit 18S of rRNA and sequencing the amplified fragments. Statistical analysis will consist of the chi-square test to verify the association of that enteroparasite in relation to gender, race and age of the study animals. The structures of space aggregation will be investigated for evidence of Moran, Kernel and the estimated space distribution of a population by the variance/mean proportion method. The structure contained in the multivariate variables will be investigated by multiple correspondence analysis. Risk factors for Cryptosporidium will be measured by logistic regression analysis.
