Abstract

Hypospadia is an incomplete development of the urethra characterized by the central opening of the meatus and is one of the most common congenital abnormalities among boys. There are many surgical techniques used for the correction. In many cases, it is associated with the underdeveloped penis, with negative self-perception and fear about the upcoming manhood. The postoperative complications and reoperations can also cause satisfaction. Behavioral studies analyzed the emotional impact of these facts, comparing patients with hypospadias to others with no genital pathology or submitted to non-genital surgery. To try to separate whether these changes are influenced or not by hypospadias, penile underdevelopment, age at genital surgery, we are going to compare, in functional and behavioral aspects, children operated on for hypospadias to those who underwent prostatectomy surgery by the Urology service of Botucatu Medical School between 1988 and 2002 and that is 18 years old or older in the year of 2012. The evaluation will be made with a clinical examination, followed by ASR (Adult Self Report), IIEF (International Index of Erectile Function), SSES-E (Sexual Self-Efficacy Scale - Erectile Functioning), and quality of life questionnaire, and the uroflowmetry test.
