Abstract

Among the various etiologies of carcinomas have oncogenic viruses such as human papilloma virus (HPV), and subtypes 16, 18, 31 and 33 strains more strongly associated with dysplasia and squamous cell carcinoma. This virus has oncogenic proteins such as E7, having the ability to interfere with the cell cycle by binding specifically to retinoblastoma, which is a tumor suppressor foforilada by cyclin-dependent kinase 4 (CDK4). This in turn is controlled by another tumor suppressor protein, the p16ink4a.The protein p16ink4a is being used as target marking in the diagnosis of lesions caused by HPV in cervical and some head and neck carcinomas. This work intends to correlate the presence of HPV with oral epithelium p16ink4a of benign lesions such as genital warts and oral papillomas and malignant squamous cell carcinoma of the base of tongue and oropharyngeal carcinoma.(AU)
