The main objective of this project is to investigate and conduct a critical assessment of the main forms of regulation of Private Military Companies. Due to its exponential growth over the past two decades and its increasing role in contemporary conflicts, these agents have become an important component in the analysis of international security. This study will focus on regulatory initiatives sponsored by the Government of Accountability Office (GAO), the U.S. Congress and multilateral initiatives as the Special Working Group of the High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations especially regarding the subject. This selection of organisms focuses on the American environment, the main catalyst of EMPs, and highlights the most relevant initiatives of regulation being developed on both national and international level. To achieve its objectives, this study will use bibliographic research to be conducted in reference research centers and also will engage on a critical evaluation of the advantages, limitations and difficulties of regulating this complex sector.
