Circus-Theatre: Scene and Performance - A study comparing Arethuzza Pavilion Theatre and Tubinho Circus

Abstract

The object of this research is the Circus Theatre in Brazil, through the establishment of a comparative panorama - focusing on issues related to the performance and interpretation of the actors - including the Pavilion Arethuzza, the company Circus Theatre's most successful early twentieth century and which ended its activities in the 1960s, and Theater Circus little tube, which is one of the greatest representatives of the genre today and started its activities in the late 1950s.The Circus Theatre, representation of plays of various genres as part of the circus show is a genuinely Brazilian theater movement, which began in the first decade of the twentieth century and remains alive today, albeit with substantial modifications and with few representatives working in the country. During the first half of the twentieth century circus Brazilians were divided into two stages: first, the ring, ran the numbers of varieties - juggling, acrobatics, clowns pirofagia and input, for example - and then rode to a stage to represent the play of the day.From this clip comparing the Circus-Theatre of the past and analyze contemporary issues related to interpretation and enactment of these two companies, through the following instruments: literature review, interviews with artists, ex-circus performers and researchers and research themes field. Thus, we will open a panoramic view on the subject, drawing a panel that will identify the changes occurring in the scenic and interpretive Circus Theatre along nearly a century.
