FAUUSP + AA in developing the master research about the social and environmental quality of slums open spaces, study and proposition with reference to the city of São Paulo

Abstract

The master's research, regular in Brazil, entitled "The social and environmental quality of slums' open spaces: study and proposition with reference to the city of São Paulo" has, as object of research, the slum's open spaces. The case study chosen is the Favela called Paraisopolis, second largest informal settlement in São Paulo, highlighted by its high level of urban, social and infrastructural consolidation. The goal of the research is, empirically, from observation and evaluation of the current situation, based on pre-established criteria of environmental and urban-landscape performance, go to trial, proposition and physical intervention, as mechanisms for understanding and qualifying environmentally the slum's open spaces, contributing also to their landscape, urban and social quality. In this scenario, contact with the method of teaching and research of the post-graduate programs called Sustainable Environmental Design and Housing and Urbanism, of the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, based on experimentation, project activity and physical intervention, will contribute, effectively, deepening, consolidating and leading to the success of this master's research, regular in Brazil. Therefore, the objective of this research project is to contextualize, justify and describe the importance and relevance of the research stage outside Brazil at the AA Graduate School of London. (AU)
