Abstract

The objective of this project draws itself from analyzed subjects regarding the last Undergraduate Research, Connections between the mythical mind and acting studies (2011/08270-1, FAPESP, 2011). Studies in this last survey concerned the tension between the mythical/sacred and the secular/rational perspectives in the ancient Greek tragedy context. The purpose of this present research is to explore similar tension between both sacred and secular points of view in Reinaissancist theatre. The range of the investigation matters Shakespeare's work and will analyze two specific plays of the author's maturity, Hamlet and Macbeth, exemplifications of this tension. The project seeks to show that, in some way, the sacred meaning - transcendent - goes through the history of theatre assuming varied forms in different eras.
