Balance and muscular strenght of the children with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease compared with healthy children

Abstract

The present project intend to generate relevant information that enhance understanding about the relationship between muscular strenght and balance in Charcot Marie Tooth neuropathy. This is a preliminary step to the proposition of interventions potentially positive of the rehabilitation of children and adolescents with this disease. From the analysis of quantitative variables and functional, the impact of the strength of the muscles of the lower limbs and balance static/dynamic of children with Charcot Marie Tooth Disease will be investigated. Twenty children and adolescents, age range of 6 to 18 years, of both sexes, 10 healthy and 10 diagnosed with CMT of different subtypes will be included. The anthropometric data, lower limbs muscle strength (Hand-held Dynamometer) and static/dynamic balance (Scale of Pediatric Balance) will be obtained in a standardized form. Data analysis will be performed by SAS software (SPSS). Comparisons between control and experimental group will be verifyed by Student t test and correlation between variables will be checked by the Spearman test. (AU)
