The action of the CAPs and IAPs in architecture magazines, Northeast (1930-1964)

Abstract

This research project has as its theme, "public housing policies", and the northeast as a case study. The research has two objectives. The first is to continue doctoral research funded by FAPESP, titled "Social Housing in the Northeast: the role of CAPs and IAPs (1930-1964)", defended in 2012 in the Graduate Program in Architecture and Urbanism (IAUSC-USP), which carried out studies and surveys the work of these bodies in the field of social housing in seven of nine northeastern capitals (São Luís, Teresina, Fortaleza, Natal, João Pessoa, Recife and Salvador), and mapping of housing units built and/or funded and registration of professional engineers and architects involved in the process. The proposed research aims to extend these analyzes to the two cities are not studied in the doctoral: Maceió and Aracaju. Then will be the identification and analysis of housing production of CAPs and IAPs in the Northeast, addition to his performances in other sectors of construction and economy, by publications in journals of the time (The House, Acrópoles, Architecture, Architecture and Engineering, Architecture and Urbanism, BAC, Habitat and IDORT), have identified important and modern achievements in the field of construction in the country. The study is justified, among other things, because latent need to review the historiography about the public housing policy, state housing production and architecture of these actions resulting in the Northeast, front of the misconceptions and gaps identified in existing publications on the subject, the lack of information about the performance of CAPs/IAPs in the region, and the lack of research on the performance of these security institutes through journals of architecture and/or construction in the country. Thus, this study is a contribution to the history of residence in Brazil, to record the memory and the construction of the history of cities in question.Keywords: Social Housing. CAPs/IAPs.
