Abstract

Civil construction is an activity generating large volumes of waste, which represents to society a serious problem with a tendency to deteriorate over time. In the composition of these residues, however, there are materials that can be reused in the construction or elsewhere, minimizing the environmental impact caused by the disposal of these wastes, often in an inadequate way. Thus, it is proposed in this paper, to study its application in the composition of soil-cement plastic, whose composition is similar to the compacted soil-cement, but with a consistency similar to a mortar plaster. The motivation for this work lies in the fact that in the western region of São Paulo there is a lot of ceramics industries installed, which generate considerable volumes of rejected material for which, there is no predefined destination. It is noteworthy that the red ceramic is widely used in this region, especially in the execution of masonry, roofs, and as part of filling in pre-cast slabs. Thus, it is also observed in the construction the occurrence of large volumes of discarded ceramic materials, especially the renovation and demolition works. For this reason, and knowing the qualities and capabilities of the ceramic material, this paper proposes to study its application in the composition of the soil-cement plastic aiming at its application in the foundations of small building construction. Laboratory tests will be performed in order to characterize the material under consideration and characteristics of strength and deformability of the plastic soil-cement to be produced.(AU)
