Abstract

The present study intends to produce better laser welded Ti-Al-V parts by plasma nitriding heat treatment. Usually the welds present lower mechanical properties than the base material. A post-welding heat treatment allows reestablishing the tensile stress and ductility to the welded part. In the current study, the heat treatment will be realized together with the plasma nitriding in order to obtain the desired mechanical behavior. Using the same heat treatment one can produce a convenient microstructure and produce a nitrided surface with enhanced tribological properties.
