Abstract

The cosmetic is considered any substance intended to be placed in contact with the various external parts of the human body (epidermis, hair, nails and lips), or with the teeth and the mucous membranes of the oral cavity, in order to clearing them, perfuming them, changing their appearance, correcting odors and protecting the human body. These products are used daily by millions of consumers, and are commonly applied directly to human skin, which can be exposed to certain elements that may cause local effects on skin human, as irritation, sensitization, allergy or photoreaction. Thus, this research project proposes the development of analytical procedures for the determination of some elements, as Bi, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Ni and Pb presents in cosmetics. For this, will be explored the potential of techniques Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (FAAS), Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP OES), Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP - MS) and Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS). The LIBS spectra and concentration values of interest elements, obtained by FAAS, ICP OES and ICP-MS, will be employed to build classification and calibration models, using chemometric tools. Furthermore, the proposed project can offer a current scenario of the cosmetics chemical composition commercialized in Brazil, contributing with information to ensure the health of users.
