Abstract

The Serra do Espinhaço Meridional, southeastern Brazil can preserve a important heap about climatic and vegetation changes occurred in Quaternary period preserved in peat bog buried for sandy deposits. In this region the Quartzitic lithology associated the intense tectonic process can cause the formation of folds that when are perpendicularly aligned at drainage network can to form accommodation place where sediments are deposited or peat bog are formed. The stratigraphy these deposits can show variations related with climatic conditions, lithologic control and local relief of the time of its deposition. When after the peat bog formation occur one climatic events or tectonic movement that promotes the mineral sediments deposition can to form a Paleo Bog. With the infeasibility of to make drilling in all area, this study propose to use the Ground Penetrating Radar to map the deposits area, studding your structure and the factors that conditioned your formation. The purchase of equipment was approve for CNPq, however, considering that in Brazil the use of this equipment for soils study is incipient and for that this equipment is used rationally and efficient this project propose the realization of six months of treining in the Rutgers University, New Jersey (USA) with the team of the Lee Slater professor, professional of reputation in the scientific community in the geophysical area.
