Abstract

Generally the fractures of long bones are treated by open reduction and anatomical fragment stabilization using external fixators, intramedullary pins, locking nails, bone plates or even combinations of them. These techniques commonly require extensive dissection of the adjacent soft tissue and periosteum damage, that may cause an increased risk of complications, including infection, delayed union and nonunion. Thus, a less invasive approach has been pursued, especially to cause less trauma to soft tissues without, however, affect the stability of the fracture. The minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) has become widely accepted for the treatment of fractures, since it can provide indirectly reduction, preservation of the initial hematoma and minimal soft tissue damage. Biomaterials such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP), bone marrow aspirate (MO) and chitosan (QUI) are able to help bone healing. The aim of this study is to evaluate the bone healing after a minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis associated with percutaneous injection of PRP, MO, and QUI, into the focus of tibial fractures in dogs. Will be used twenty dogs from the Hospital Veterinário Governador Laudo Natel - UNESP- Jaboticabal surgical routine. The dogs will be evaluated by an ambulation, swelling intensity, radiographic examination and densitometry on 15, 30, 60, 90 and 120 days postoperatively. (AU)
