Abstract

The genome rearrangement problem consists in minimizing the number of evolutionary events between two given genomes. This is the basis of one of the most studied themes in bioinformatics. The Algebraic Model for Genome Rearrangements is a way to define genome rearrangement using proven tools from group theory.This doctorate aims to apply the algebraic model to the genome median problem and other related problems, searching for situations where the solutions can be computed efficiently or where efficient approximated algorithms exist.
