Abstract The City of Sete Lagoas (MG) has faced a strong and rapid population and economic growth, exacerbating the problems arising from increased demand for water that is extracted from a karst aquifer system, such as those associated with restraint in the public supply, contamination soil and aquifer, and cuts the flow of surface water courses. The aim of this PhD project is to develop a management model of groundwater resources in karstic aquifers in order to optimize the supply public and private, reducing the possible social and environmental impacts, establishing recommendations for better planning of the occupation urban. The methodology is divided into two phases, the first subdivided into phases of existing data collection, processing and interpretation of data, highlighting specific approaches to be applied in studies of karstes, whereas the second stage, based on interpretations made in the previous phase, it can develop hypotheses, test working models of the aquifer and, therefore, a model of management of water resources for the municipality in order to establish conditions of exploitation and planning of water use. The work will utilize the large number of data generated in previous projects, allowing to concentrate the studies to obtain additional data, but critical to overcome the inherent problems of great complexity of karst systems. The resources earmarked for the realization of this project will be achieved through a partnership between the CEPAS + IGc-USP and the company Servmar Ambiental & Engenharia S/A. | |
