The critical activity of João das Neves in the newspaper "Novos Rumos" in 1960: Perspective about the construction of an epic - dialectical theatre in Brazil.

Abstract

This Project intends to dedicate to developing a research on the theatrical work of the Brazilian playwright João das Neves, covering the historic period of the politicization of the Teatro de Arena and the constitution of the Centre for Popular Culture of UNE. It is divided into two parts covering the different stages of his artistic work; the first one analyzes the critical activity of João das Neves and consists of a study of the reviews he published in Novos Rumos, an important newspaper of the Brazilian left in the 1960s. The second part covers his experience within the Centre for Popular Culture (CPC) from the end of 1962, the position defended by João das Neves differs from the one expressed in the preliminary draft of the manifesto of the CPC, written by Carlos Estevan Martins. This project intends to the register the Neves positioning relative the work of CPC, manifested in reviews after the movement.Thus, the two parts of this study intend to document the work of João das Neves as an artist in the pre-64 period so as to allow the readers to understand the Brazilian culture of the period, and the relevance of J. das Neves s work in the Brazilian theater world of the period.
