Abstract

Proceeding with the studies of the Masters level, in which we have studied the use of mixed texts in the formulation of questions of national exams for educational assessment (National Exam of Secondary Education - ENEM and National Exam of Students Performance - ENADE), we intend, with this project, to conduct a study of epistemological base, in order to accompany some linguistic reflections which brought into light the issue of non-verbal and mixed texts as materiality of discourse. Under Professor Vanice Maria Oliveira Sargentini's supervision in both Masters and Doctoral levels, our research has focused on the different ways in which verbal-visual materialities emerge in the school context, with attention to reading and interpreting issues of these semiological objects as constituents of discourses. The guiding question of our doctoral research aims to answer: what changes have occurred on the production of didactic and evaluative texts in the last forty years, especially regarding the exploitation of image use, and which historical, cultural and theoretical factors have guided these changes on teaching the Portuguese language? To answer that, at least two analytical paths are necessary: a) investigating the emergence conditions and the progressive increase of the use of mixed text on the production of contemporary educational texts, in order to comprehend theoretical premises that have been guiding the teaching/learning of text reading and interpretation, in a general way, and the use of image, in a particular way, considering the historical institutionalization background of linguistic studies in Brazil; b) conducting a study of linguistic theories, seeking out those which, in recent years, allowed a higher recurrence of mixed texts in teaching material. This partial doctoral fellowship project, under the joint supervision of Professor Christian Puech, addresses to this second path. In linguistic study centers of France, under the guidance of this Professor, we will study the vast and acknowledged scientific production concerning the Histoire des Idées Linguistiques (HIL), in which we will seek to discuss the images and mixed texts issue within the contemporary studies of Language Sciences.
