The project aims at performing, via Quantum Monte Carlo simulations, a thorough study of the thermodynamic properties and entanglement entropies of spin-1 Heisenberg chains at low temperatures, in the presence of disorder. The focus will be on: (i) the numerical confirmation of various scaling forms and critical exponents predicted for the chain with aperiodic but deterministic disorder by the Ma-Dasgupta-Hu real-space renormalization-group method; (ii) the study of the von Neumann and Rényi entanglement entropies for the chain with random couplings, in the various ground state phases it exhibits (Haldane phase, Griffiths phase and random-singlet phase).
