Study of repetitives elements in the schizodon borelli genome.

Abstract

In eukaryotic organisms can observe the existence of repetitive sequences of DNA that are characterized by individual sequences that are repeated several times, and represent much of the genome eukaryote. Many studies show that these sequences may be involved in various mechanisms as well as helping in the maintenance and propagation of genetic material of cells, such as in the chromosomal level, rearrangements by deletions, duplications, inversions and reciprocal translocations, accounting for significant proportions of karyotypic variations observed in many groups. Although repetitive DNAs have already been used in analyzes of molecular cytogenetics for identification of homologous chromosomes and chromosomal abnormalities and are widely studied in invertebrates and mammals (SINGER, 1982), in fish there is little information about the sequences and genomic organization and cytological. This project aims to isolate repetitive sequences of the genome of S. Borelli that might be interesting from the evolutionary point of view and clarify important events occurring in the family, for example, those related to the origin of sex chromosomes in the group.
