Abstract

The aim of this study will be to evaluate the effects of the incorporation of nanoparticles of silver in acrylic resins autopolimerizaveis term and the basis of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). The nanoparticles of silver will be produced by the Department of Chemistry, University of Sao Joao del Rei under the responsibility of Prof. Marco Antonio Schiavon. The procedure for obtaining these nanoparticles is the reduction of silver ion of silver nitrate by sodium citrate. The shape and size of the particles will be confirmed by electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission (TEM). The acrylic resin, provided according to the manufacturer's instructions, received the colloidal solution of nanoparticles of silver to the component which will be homogenized solid (polymer) of this resin in concentrations of 0.1%, 0.3%, and 0.6% mass. Finally, this mixture of nanoparticle solution over the solid component will be homogenized with the liquid (monomer). After processing, the specimens will be subjected to tests of mechanical resistance to fracture and hardness. These trials aim to verify the incorporation of nanoparticles of silver caused changes in mechanical properties and physico-chemical properties of the resins. Is aroused interest in the use of nanocomposites because these elements have excellent properties with respect to antimicrobial activity, possessing a broad spectrum of action. Its antimicrobial action also affects those microorganisms that are part of the human intestinal microflora and oral, that under certain predisposing conditions, can become opportunistic pathogens, causing superficial and systemic diseases.(AU)
