Abstract

The purpose of this doctoral project involves the research about autonomic computing, focusing on the development of self-configuration and self-optimization mechanisms for virtualized architectures that aims to ensure the provision of Quality of Service. These mechanisms will make use of autonomous elements based in computational agents that will be aided by a distributed ontology. Therefore, Semantic Web tools will be used in order to the ontology to represent a knowledge base with information collected by the computational agents. Such information will be used by optimization algorithms that may take the decision of choosing a new configuration that aims to optimize the architecture performance based on rules predefined by the administrator. The architecture configuration and optimization usually involves elements of software that must be managed by professionals in the Information Technology (IT) field and part of this management is composed of common tasks, for example, monitoring tests and performance evaluations. These tasks take some time and therefore generate costs and distress to the professionals. Thus, this project aims to automate some of these common tasks, facilitating the work of IT professionals and allowing them to focus on more critical tasks. Therefore, to achieve this goal a study and the creation of distributed mechanisms based on Autonomic Computing and Semantic Web will be done allowing the configuration and optimization of resources in the architecture automatically.
