Abstract

The current project is the study of the secondary metabolites active produced by endophytic fungus associated with aerial parts of Paepalanthus giganteus (Eriocaulaceae). There are more than two decades our team has been studying species of this family, focused on the isolation by chromatography methods like gel permeation chromatography, silica gel column chromatography, HPLC, HSCCC. More than two dozen of species have already been studied and their metabolites were elucidated by spectrometric and spectroscopic methods (MS, IR, UV, NMR). Therefore, another perspective that still does not address Eriocaulaceae is the study of endophytic fungus associated with species of this family. Seeing the current importance and relevance of natural products from fungus, we are implementing in our team the chemistry study of endophytic fungus associated with Eriocaulaceaes in collaboration with the group led by Prof. Dr. Angela Regina Araújo (NUbbe- IQ - Unesp, Araraquara). The knowledge of the secondary metabolites from endophytic fungus complement notably the wide phytochemical work that our team has been doing this year. The purpose under-graduate research project will be to accomplish the cultivation of the endophytic fungus associates from P. giganteus, to prepare the extracts from fungus and the relative fingerprint by HPLC-PDA and by HPLC-ESI-MS of each extract. For the compounds that are already known will be identified with co-injections of standard and metabolite, do not isolate and do not identify should be realized fractionation and purifications by chromatography methods.(AU)
