Abstract

This reseach project is intended to study the pedagogical concepts developed by Célestin Freinet in the Modern School Movement, in order to observe their possibles implications in the field of musical education. The research begins with a profound study of Freinet's techniques and their reasons, starting from the pedagogical proposal for the school as a whole, until the reflection on the practice of musical education. In a second moment, it's intended to make a critic and comparative study of some proposes of musical education widespread in 20th century, by authors such as Carl Orff, Shinichi Suzuki, Murray Schafer, H. J. Koellreuter, François Delalande, according to the relevance observed during the research. This study attempts to relate them to the Modern School Movement's musical practice and thinking. It's also intended an rapprochement with the pedagogic practice trhough internships in institutions that follow Freinet's pedagogy and reports and reflections on the practice of the researcher. The musical practices worked with children during the research will be documented in many ways - sound recordings, drawings, scores etc -, aiming to share two concomitant processes: the children's involvement with the sound and music and the practical application of the studied concepts.
