Abstract Much of the population lives in por conditions and often in the outskirts of major economic centers due to several factores, which might be political, economical, social, and environmental. A portion of the population ends up living in areas of risk such as hillsides, landslide-prone hills, river banks, and areas prone to flooding. This work intends to analyze areas with precarious settlements located in the Piçarrão River Basin in Campinas and survey the existing typologies; it also intends to analyze changes to the landscape which have occurred in the last two decades and future scenarios of urban and housing occupancy interaction in the dynamics of this river basin.
