Abstract

Nosocomial diseases are commonly associated with hospitalized people and hospital emergencies due to the occurrence of invasive procedures. Normally, etiologic agents of these diseases are represented by resistant or multi-resistant bacteria samples. This way, the search for new antimicrobial compounds is receiving special attention, including essential oils or extracts of medicinal plants and some vegetal major compounds. These compounds are often responsible for the biological and antimicrobial properties of essential oils. The aim of this study is to verify the inhibitory effects of some major compounds (timol, carvacrol, geraniol, eugenol e terpineol) from different plants over some bacteria strains isolated from hospitalized patients on the "Hospital das Clínicas da FMB/UNESP": Staphylococcus aureus Methicillin Resistant (MRSA), Staphylococcus aureus Meticilin Sensible (MSSA), Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterococcus sp. The methodology that will be used is the dilution of antimicrobial compounds in Muller Hinton Agar. Intending to determine if the values of Minimal Inhibitory Concentration are bactericidal or bacteriostatic, tests will be made to obtain the survival curves of each specie of essential oil and to the tested antimicrobial by counting the viable cells over time.(AU)
