Abstract

The use of natural products for pharmacological tests has been used for some time, however only in recent decades the pharmacokinetic study has improved leading to the steps of obtaining information about pharmacokinetic ADME (absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion) of some classes of polyphenolic compounds. The polyphenolic compounds can be divided into several classes, such as the flavonoids, that may be found free (aglycone) or connected with sugars (glycosylated). It is estimated that the ingestion of dietary flavonoids by humans is between 20 to 1000 mg/day. The avicularina or 3-O-±-arabinofuranosyl-Quercetin is a flavonol found in several medicinal plants and was first reported in the genus Bidens in 2009. This study will use the species B. sulphure, with biological properties described in the literature as antioxidant, antiallergic, antimutagenic and antimicrobial activities. On this study, the UPLC-MS/MS will be used in order to quantify flavonoids and then provide reproducibility, speed, high sensitivity and versatility. The Sequential Mass spectrometry in combination with chromatography is widely used because it is a highly sensitive technique which increases the detection and reduction of interferences, and consequently, generates additional structural information. Substances present in biological materials such as serum, plasma and urine, require a pre-treatment before analysis. Different extraction procedures of these substances will be tested: liquid-liquid, solid phase and protein precipitation.
