Black metal hordes: war and alliance in the black metal scene in São Paulo

Abstract

The black metal, an extreme style of heavy metal music genre, presents itself as an universe permeated by several references that go beyond the dimension of music and their creative processes, comprising mainly a specific way of occupation of the city through a circuit of shows and meetings, making a network of relations that is constantly defined by the fans (in the case of our specific object of analysis) as a black metal scene in Sao Paulo. The overall objective of this research is therefore to analyze how the various elements constituting the scene - discourses, practices, aesthetic elements and representations - are organized in order to establish an identity black metal, with strong links to the underground of extreme metal. To do so, will be prioritized research field which will be based on the observation of these circuits shows in the city of São Paulo and interviews with band members(hordes) and other subjects that are part of core relationships generally recognized by them as scene. The intention is to gather data that may provide a frame of the intersection between the practices and discourses of these subjects with their values and a sense of identity defended constantly by fans of the style.
