Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Trauma is called the "neglected disease of modern society," with definite causes and preventable, resulting from exposure to an external force or substance, with energy transfer above the body's tolerance. The "The Global Forum on Trauma Care" calls attention to the major public health problem that is trauma, being responsible for killing 5.8 million people a year, with 90% of those in middle and low income countries, besides being a major cause of disability and economic loss. The "Global Report on Child Injury and Prevention" draws world attention on the impact of this tragedy. In 2004, 950,000 children under 18 died from accidents. A Brazilian study showed that the total of emergencies, 19.9% were children 0-19 years. Besides prevention, one of the recommendations of the Global Report is to provide adequate support to the injured child, with a system of pre-hospital care specifically for children, as well as the production of knowledge. It is known that the majority of trauma deaths occur in the field, and that the trauma patient survival depends on quick service. It is clear the global concern with this issue in the "Sixtieth World Health Assembly," considering the urgent international effort to improve the delivery of trauma care, especially the pre-hospital system. This generated the need to improve the service of urgent rescue of victims, which is currently done by the SAMU and the Fire Department. In this context, use of aeromedical rescue proved to be essential in some urban centers, due to its speed and efficiency of care. The use of air medical transport in Brazil still lags significantly behind the need. There is a lot of criticism in its use and there is a need to study more about this tool, since it is proven the benefit of air medical rescue, as it ensures the patient to definitive care in a referral center. Thus, this study aims to analyze the demand for hospital traumatized children, up to 18 years, rescued by air medical service in Campinas by the military police helicopter "Águia", and brought to the Clinical Hospital of UNICAMP. BACKGROUND: Demonstrate the profile of patients in pediatric patients, treated by aeromedical rescue, since the beginning of its activities in Campinas, assisting in the standardization of protocols. OBJECTIVE Create the profile of children and young people 0-18 years treated by aeromedical rescue the city of Campinas since the beginning of activities. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: This is a prospective, descriptive study including all patients under 18 transported by aeromedical rescue services since July 2010, and reviewed the medical records for the following data: gender, age, place of occurrence, timing of pre-hospital care, procedures and pre - hospital and the injuries found by calculating the rates of trauma (RTS, ISS and TRISS), and to record the evolution, length of stay, complications, and date of discharge or death. OUTCOMES: Demonstrate that the air medical service benefits to serious cases of trauma patients between zero and 18 years old, and that the quality of care can be improved, and bring suggestions for improvement by analyzing the above data.
