Abstract

Due to its high dielectric constant, the calcium titanate (CaTiO3) has been applied in several areas, especially in electronic devices like memories and capacitors. A substitution at any site of this material can modify its physico-chemical properties. In this project, Ce3 + and Tb3 + were chosen as dopants, since the process of energy transfer that occurs between them enables the use of such material in photo-electronic devices, high-resolution solid state lasers, high-energy detectors, devices for optical data storage, among others. In this research project it is proposed to prepare powders of (CaxTbyCez) TiO3 by the microwave-assisted hydrothermal method to study the energy transfer mechanism between the rare earth ions. The structural and microstructural characterization will be conducted by the techniques of X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy and high resolution scanning electron microscopy. Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis) and photoluminescence will evaluate the optical properties of the materials. Finally, a study of the photoluminescent properties will be made through the excitation and emission spectra of Ce3+ and Tb3+ in the obtained materials. (AU)
