Abstract

The research proposed associates the drawing field, mainly a specific type, called sketchbook, with the perceptive processes mobilized in the construction of knowledge and in the formation of architects and town planners. It will be adopted as analysis object the production of sketchbooks by students of the graduation course in architecture and urbanization of the Institute of Architecture and Urbanization of the University of São Paulo, in São Carlos, and of the master's degree integrated in architecture of the College of Architecture of the University of Porto (as known as School of Porto), in Portugal. The present project is characterized as the unfolding of the Scientific Initiation developed by the author of this proposal, with the financing of the Program Teaching with Research of the Pro-rectory of Graduation of USP, with the title Sketchbook: Teaching practices in observation drawing for the formation of architects and urban planners. The unfolding that happen in the construction of a drawing, including simultaneously the process of seeing and of drawing, they are subjects dependent a priori of learning and a posteriori of practical development. Thus, when studying the strong methodological base of the drawing of the School of Porto, it will be possible to understand how this teaching makes possible that the students have, in a certain way, a formation more artistic and of larger ability with the several project relations of an architect's profession. Besides, there is an external association to be done, which includes the course of architecture and urbanization of the Institute of Architecture and Urbanization - USP. It is a comparison between that course and the School of Porto in the use of the drawing inside the teaching and a more punctual comparison between the sketchbooks executed by the students of both colleges. When analyzing them, it will be possible to find more answers about the importance of drawing for architects and, mainly, about how knowledge is built through this practice. It is intended, finally, that the final considerations of this proposal can collaborate with the project Architecture, Drawing and Representation: drawing methodologies in the teaching of project, developed by the Research Group ELAC (Study of Language in Architecture and City). This project is financed by the Announcement of 2011 of Convention of International Cooperation of Research of the University of São Paulo with the University of Porto, promoted by the Pro-rectory of Research, more specifically between ELAC and a team of researchers of the College of Architecture and Urbanization of Porto (FAUP).
