Abstract

A series of diseases with different pathophysiological mechanisms and epidemiological aspects leads to the dry eye syndrome, which is recognized as one of the most common eye disease worldwide, capable of decrease the vision and put into risk the ocular integrity in severe cases. Furthermore, a sign or exam that presents itself as a common denominator on the diagnosis of dry eye and that presents correlation with symptoms still does not exist in the clinical practice or in the clinical studies. This study intends to evaluate the tear film osmolarity and correlates the clinical parameters of ocular surface assessment and cornea impression cytology in different animal models of dry eye. The results will allow to identify the association between the various exams of the tear film and to identify a possible marker to the common diagnosis in animal models of dry eye. (AU)
