Abstract

This proposal is related to the development and use of lamellar acid catalysts in the dehydration of glycerol, aiming improved selectivity to acrolein. The acid catalysts usually have high selectivity to this compound, however the catalysts deactivate significantly due to coke poisoning. The main motivation of this proposal is the increasing demand and production of biodiesel, which results in huge amount of glycerol as co-product.
