Abstract

The objective of this project is to study structural properties, transport and derivatives of graphene and similar structure, h-BN, which has attracted special attention due to its superb thermal and chemical stabilities, and intrinsic electrical insulation. Interesting magnetic properties have also been reported for derivatives of h-BN which can be obtained from chemical modifications of membrane using the replacement of B or N with several atomic species such as Be, O, or by vacancies. The h-BN has been used as scaffold of graphene in electronic devices and for formation of hybrid structures of graphene, the BCN. Our study will focus on three applications of h-BN: the first one, on the hydrogenation and oxidation of these membranes including defects. Second one related to stacking of graphene and BN and finally about one of the most promising structures which consists of a hybrid membrane composed of graphene and BN. This structure has been obtained by the group of Professor Ajayan and enables the creation of structures with energy gaps defined by the stoichiometry. For that case, transport calculations, electronic structure and elastic properties are programmed to be performed. (AU)
