We want to study the Drell-Yan production of low-mass high-rapidity lepton pairs, a process which is being observed by the LHCb experiment. We will develop a novel procedure showing that these data can measure the parton distribution functions of the proton in a very low x domain which previously has been unreachable by experiment. Parton distributions in this domain are extremely important as they drive the majority of proton-proton collisions at the LHC. Moreover, the theoretical framework that is currently used in this domain is expected to become inadequate. Experimental information from LHCb in this low $x$ domain will, for the first time, illuminate the correct theoretical approach, which will in turn, improve the knowledge of parton distributions which are necessary ingredients for extracting physics from all the LHC experiments. Furthermore, in our studies of the Drell-Yan process, we can introduce a cut on dilepton transverse momentum, to reduce the factorization scale. The next timely area is the study of bb(bar) production, where direct access to the low x gluon distribution is possible. Also, we may study the chi c(J=0,1,2) inclusive production, which will allow the study the region of rather low scales close to the starting DGLAP evolution value Q_0. (chi c(1,2)->J/psi+\gamma was already observed by LHCb.) (AU)
